In order to truly follow and put our faith in Jesus, it is important that we learn about Him and understand who He is, what He is and what He has done for us.

Where Did Jesus Come From?:

The gospel of John in the New Testament tells us that:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was WITH GOD, and the Word WAS GOD.  The same was in the beginning with GodAll things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  IN HIM was LIFE; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”  John 1:1-5.

Thus, we see that Jesus was God in the Flesh (he was not just “a” god. Jesus, the Word, “was” and “is” God).  But we see that Jesus is not God the Father, He came out from the Father:

“For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from GodI came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.”  John 16:27-28

Born of a Virgin:

In fulfillment of prophesy, Jesus was born into the world of a virgin – begotten by the Holy Ghost:

"The Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14).

"Now the birth of Christ was as follows. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit…for that which was conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 1:18,20).

"Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be, since I am a virgin?’. And the angel answered and said to her ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you’" (Luke 1:34-5).

Jesus Was Conceived of the Spirit, Born in the Flesh as God’s Son:

Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born in the flesh of a virgin as the Son of His Father, God.  He was fully God and fully man.  We, on the other hand, are conceived and born in the flesh as the children of Adam and Eve (fully in the flesh) and not as the children of God (not of the Spirit).  But through faith in Christ and receiving Him, we may be born again, conceived of the spirit, and become the children of God:

“He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave the POWER TO BECOME the sons of God, even TO THEM THAT BELIEVE ON HIS NAMEWhich were BORN, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but OF GOD.  John 1:11-13.

Thus, when we put our faith in Christ Jesus and accept Him as our Lord and Savior and His free gift of life and salvation, we are born again (“Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” John 3:7). We are born anew, not of blood or of the flesh, but born of the spirit as a child of God. (“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:6).  We then become a child of the Living God.

Note further that with regard to Jesus’ birth it was declared that:  “they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew 1:23. In one Old Testament prophesy that prophesied of His birth it was declared:  “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, THE MIGHTY GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6).  In and of Himself as God, He was and is Life. His Words are truth and life and “shall never pass away” Matthew 24:35.

We see also from the scriptures that Jesus is the literal Son of God the Father (He is not our brother as some religions have claimed).  No, He is our God, the great I AM.  He was from everlasting to everlasting.  “‘I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending,’ says the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8.  The Word declares that, not only is Jesus the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, but unto those who believe on His name, He gave power to BECOME children of God.

Jesus is the end of the Law – He brought Grace and Truth:

“And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.  For the law was given by Moses, but GRACE AND TRUTH CAME BY JESUS CHRIST.” John 1:17.

Christ is the end of the Law.  We now live under the New Covenant which is salvation by grace and truth through faith in Christ Jesus.

Jesus answered, “I AM the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except THROUGH ME.”  John 14:6.

Adam and Eve, by disobedience to God’s command not to partake of forbidden fruit,  were cast out of the garden and from God’s fellowship and presence.  Sin and death entered into the world through their transgression.  But God, in His infinite love, grace and mercy, has provided the way to redeem us from the fallen state of sin and death.  The Way, and only way, to redemption is through faith on God’s one and only Son!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM shall not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16

The Blood of Jesus Cleanses from All Sin:

When Jesus declared on the Cross “it is finished”, the work was finished.  He did it all.  He paid the full price for the sins of the world.  There is nothing that you or I or anyone else can add to His finished work.

“[T]he blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from ALL sin.” 1 John 1:7.  “Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:  But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.  Mark 3:28-29. (No exception for any sin committed is ever given in the bible, except for blasphemy against the Holy Ghost).

“God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sinshaving canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”  Colossians 2:13-15

“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:” Colossians 1:12-14

We believe it, because His word declares it.

Biblical Warnings:

“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.” 2 Corinthians 11:3-4.

Beware of those who come claiming to be “Christian” but yet preach a corrupted gospel that deviates from the simplicity that is in Jesus.  Yes, we have been warned that there will be counterfeits that will preach “another Jesus” and “another gospel” than the Jesus and His apostles taught.  These counterfeits may preach that Jesus is not the only way, that a religion and set of ordinances and/or rituals are the way, that His blood doesn’t cleanse from all sin, that there are some sins that can’t be forgiven, that we have to atone or pay for our own sins, and other deviations from the Word of God.

"[B]ut there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:7-8

In sum, it is important that we feast on the Word of God and learn the gospel that Jesus and His apostles taught – which is the simplicity that is in Christ Jesus: that He alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one comes to the Father but by and through faith in Him.  If we know His Word, we will discern and know that counterfeits when they come.  Jesus declared that His Word is Truth.

May God bless you as you honestly seek Him in truth and as you continue to abide in Him and in His Word.
