Does it ever feel like your life is on a road leading to nowhere?  Do you ever ask any of the following questions:  What is life for anyway?  Is there any meaning for my life?  Does my life have a purpose?  Is there a God?  If so, does he care about me?  Does it matter?

The answers are: Yes, there is a God and He loves you!  In fact, He loves you so much that He sent His one and only Son to the earth as a sacrifice that you might receive life everlasting - an eternal inheritance as a member of God's own family with a place reserved especially for you at His table in His Kingdom.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16

That is not just an oft-quoted phrase.  It is the true and living Word from the mouth of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God - He who loved you (and the entire world) so much that He stepped down from His throne, was born of a virgin into a body of flesh and bone, endured afflictions, taught the words of life and salvation and offered His own life as a sacrifice for your sins and for mine!  He was and is the only worthy lamb who could serve as the sacrifice for the world - to save the lost, the broken and the hurting who would heed His call and put their faith in Him and receive God's free gift of life and salvation in and through Christ Jesus.

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."  Acts 4:10-12

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  John 14:6

"He [Christ] did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption."  Hebrews 9:12

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.  Luke 4:17-21

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.  John 8:36

So, God's Word tells me Jesus gave His life and paid the price for my sins. He came to heal my broken heart and to set me free.  "How, then, can I receive this gift, forgiveness of my sins, and be saved?", you might ask.

What God's Word tells us about how we can receive salvation:

Romans 10:13 tells us that: "Everyone that calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."  (note that God says everyone - no exceptions - all are welcome)

God is not going to turn you away, if you come to Him seeking in sincerity.  This is true, not matter how "bad" you may be and how many sins you may have committed.

"For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."  Matthew 7:8

Romans 10:8-11 further instructs us:  “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."

"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.   But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."  Matthew 10:32-33

It is important that we not only believe that Jesus existed or that He was a good man/teacher (as Jesus Himself said, even the devils believe - but they are not saved), but we must put our faith in God, believe that Jesus is the Son of the Living God and believe in the saving power of Jesus through His sacrifice for our sins on the cross.  [As Jesus himself proclaimed: "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE.  No one comes to the Father except through ME."  We have to recognize and believe God's word which says that Jesus is the only way to God.] In addition to putting our faith in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and was resurrected and confessing Him as our Lord and savior with our mouths and with our hearts, we must also repent of our sins and "receive" Jesus into our hearts and receive God's free gift of life and salvation that are given by His grace:

"He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  But as many as RECEIVED him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:10-13

God's gift of grace, through the atonement of Jesus Christ, becomes effective as to you only when you put your faith in Jesus as the Son of God and Saviour of your soul, repent of your sins and receive what Jesus did for you.  When you repent and put your faith in Jesus as your Lord and saviour, you are saved.  What does it really mean to be "saved"?  God's Word tells us that Jesus came into the world to save us FROM our sins (Jesus didn't come to save us IN our sins - He came to save us FROM our sins).  Because of Adam and Eve's fall, we are all born with a sinful nature, because we are born in the flesh of the family of Adam and Eve who fell and were cast out of the Garden and God's presence and fellowship through sin.  As children of Adam and Eve, due to our fallen nature, we all have sinned and are unworthy to enter into God's Kingdom and presence (because nothing unclean can enter into the presence of God, because He is Holy).  Being "saved" really means to be saved from our sin (Matthew 1:18-23) and its consequences (death and Hell) by and through Christ Jesus who knew no sin and was the only worthy lamb -- who, because of His great love, became our sin and paid the debt that he didn't owe but that we did owe and could never pay, so that we might be made the righteousness of God through faith in Him and His blood that was shed for us on the Cross.  (2 Corinthians 5:21).

In addition to being saved from our sins, Salvation is also becoming a son or daughter of God through being born again of the spirit.  God is spirit.  Until we are born of the Spirit, we are children of the flesh - descendants of Adam and Eve who chose to listen to the devil rather than to follow God.  Jesus said to Nicodemus:

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be BORN OF WATER and OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. John 3:3-7

When you put your faith in Jesus Christ and repent of your sins, you are then Born of the Spirit.  You have become a member of God's family, as his son or daughter through Christ Jesus.  This restoration to God's family, restores you to a relationship with God and gives you access into his Kingdom, if you continue to follow Jesus and walk after the spirit and not after the flesh (in willful sin).  (See Romans 8:1-17; Galatians 5:16-25).  You also need to be Born of the Water, to fulfill all righteousness and to follow Jesus.  (After you read this page, go to the Baptism and the Holy Spirit pages for clarification on why we should be Baptized in Water and the Holy Spirit).

Salvation has already been provided by Jesus who was the willing sacrifice on the Cross in our place.  When you repent to God, confessing your sins and asking Him to forgive you and confess of your faith in Jesus, you are reaching out in faith to Him and accepting that gift that He gave so that it becomes operative for you.  When you have repented of your sins and given your life to Jesus, you are then born again (re-born) in the spirit (your flesh is still you - but your heart and your spirit are made new and you are born of the Spirit of God and are brand new on the inside with the life and spirit of Jesus Christ now dwelling inside of you -- you are now His holy temple) and you become a child of God through faith in His Son.

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners —of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 1 Timothy 1:15-16

You don’t have to clean your act up and make yourself “good-enough” or go through any preparation period or process before you can come to God in faith to receive His free gift. Only your faith in Christ Jesus, honest repentance to God and taking up your cross to follow Jesus can save you.  He loves you and accepts you where you are and how you are, if you come to Him in sincerity, truly repenting of your sins and truly seeking Him:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."  Matthew 11:28

". . . and he who comes to me I will in no way cast out."  John 6:37

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”  Ephesians 2:4-10

Note that although we are not saved by our own works or anything that we do, when we have been saved and transformed by God through Christ, we are new creatures in Him and are created to do His works.  We must be disciples of Jesus and as he bid "come follow me", we must continue to follow Him and seek Him and His will for our lives.

"Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him DENY HIMSELF, and take up his cross, and follow me.  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.  For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"  Matthew 16:24-26

So, when we receive Jesus, we are to surrender ourselves and take up our cross and follow Jesus and lose our lives for His sake.  That maybe sounds crazy. That is the irony of God's plan, when we lose our lives, we receive life.  When we give we receive.  It is contrary to the wisdom of men, but it is the wisdom and plan of the God of heaven and earth!

It is important to know that it is through Jesus Christ alone that we can be saved. No church, no organization, no man and no ordinances or works can or will save us.  Jesus himself declared:

"I AM the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  John 14:6

"I AM the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved . . ."  John 10:9

[If anyone tries to convince you that, in order to be saved and receive eternal life, you must become a member of a particular church and receive special ordinances or rites, DO NOT believe it.  If they say that you must accept and follow a particular prophet or man (or woman) in order to come to God, DO NOT believe it.  These are the counterfeit churches and gospels that come from false prophets and teachers - who may sound incredibly sincere and whose teachings may seem logical and so convincing when presented.  But beware, such teachings are contrary to the plain and simple Word of the Living God and they will ultimately lead to bondage rather than the life and freedom that are in Christ Jesus.]

If you want to repent of your sins and make Jesus the Lord of your life so that you may be born of the spirit and saved by receiving the free gift of salvation that God has provided for you through the gift and sacrifice of His Son, Say this prayer out loud (with your heart you believe and with your mouth you confess . . . ) – (the exact words are not what is important but the intent and faith of your heart is -  it is not the prayer itself or the words that save you, it is your sincere repentance to God and faith in Jesus Christ that will save you):

"God, I come to You in the Name of Jesus, your Son.  Father, I confess that I have sinned against You.  I repent of my sins and I ask that you forgive me and wash away my sins.  I turn away from my sin to You.
I believe that Jesus died on the Cross for my sins and that He was raised again to life on the third day.  I confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.  Lord Jesus, from this moment on you are the Lord of my life.  I give my life to you.  I will follow you all the days of my life.  You lead and I will follow.  I believe in You, Your Word and Your promises.  I believe that, according to your Word, from this moment on, I am reborn in Christ and have become a child of the Living God.  I believe it and I receive it with thanks, in the holy name of Jesus Christ, Amen."

If you truly repented of your sins and said this prayer honestly and in faith, you have been justified by Christ and have become an heir to the Kingdom of God (welcome to the family -- God's family!).  Now Jesus lives in you - in your heart. Watch how he will change your heart and your life.  You may not hear thunder or a voice from heaven at this moment, but if you sincerely received Him in faith, He has come into your heart and has given you a new life in Him and your heart and your desires will change.  As Jesus said, you will "have life and you will have it more abundantly."  (John 10:10).  You are now a new creature in Christ and all things have become new:

"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Galatians 2:20

Your first act of faith as a follower of Jesus is to be baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit.  (Acts 2:36-41; Acts 8:35-38; Romans 6:3-11;  See the Baptism and Holy Spirit pages for a more detailed discussion of these two critical elements for all believers). You shouldn't wait to be baptized in water and the Holy Spirit. Water Baptism is being the "born of the water" that Jesus spoke of in John 3:5.  Before Jesus began His ministry, he showed us the way, by first being baptized in water (as He said in order to "fulfill all righteousness") and receiving the Holy Spirit.  Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  We must follow Him.  The Way that we first follow Him, is into the waters of baptism.

As we see in the Book of Acts, the apostles and disciples of Jesus consistently preached faith in Christ, repentance and baptism in water and the Holy Spirit - and they did it right then as soon as the person came to faith, not waiting for a special day or anything else.
As soon as the person believed and repented, the disciples then went down into the water and baptized them and then they received the baptism in the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands right after the person came up out of the water.  As the early disciples did, you should follow their example and not wait for baptism in water and in the Holy Spirit.

Continue to drink from the living waters of Christ by filling your heart and mind with His Living Word, the bible (get a bible and read it).  He will write His Word on your heart as never before and will fill you to overflowing, if you continue prayerfully in Him, in faith.  Do not continue in sin, but believe that He has saved you from sin and through His grace and your changed heart that is now born of the spirit and you are empowered to come out of sin and out of the world.  Find other faithful believers that you can fellowship with - a good way to do that is to find a good church or bible-based home fellowship group that is faithfully teaching from the bible so that you can worship and have fellowship with fellow believers and disciples of Jesus (but remember that it is not religion or a church that saves you - it is faith in Jesus Christ and His shed blood that saves you; but fellowship with other believers is important to your continued growth in the faith).
